Zoning and Zone Maps
Development in the City is governed by the City’s Comprehensive Zoning Bylaw Rev.2007 (SS-15)
The Zoning Bylaw divides the city into development zones which determine the type and density of development in the City.
There are currently 19 zones defined for the City:

For each zone, specifications for the type and size of a building are defined. In addition, setbacks, which determine how far a building can be from a property line, and the minimum size of front, back and side yards are defined.
The Zoning Bylaw is consulted before any development application can be processed.
Changes to the zoning for an area can be made by application to the Development Officer in the Planning Office.
The merits of the application will be researched and recommendation will be made to the Technical Services Committee/Planning Board of City Council.
