    Traffic

The City of Summerside Police Service established a Bike Patrol in 1998. At that time, the Bike Patrol was used solely for public relations.

The Bike Patrol presently has two members, and runs from the beginning of June, to the end of September. The Bike Patrol members work regular shifts, which include nights, along with their platoon.

The Bike Patrol has evolved since 1998. Along with public relations, the Bike Patrol is used the same as a police car. Bike Patrol members are responsible to answer calls for service as they would if they were in a vehicle. When not responding to calls, the Bike Patrol members patrol the City with an emphasis on visibility and personal contact with the public. The Bike Patrol can respond to calls for service and patrol areas within the City that are not accessible by vehicle. These areas include parks, walking trails and carnivals.

The City of Summerside Police Service Bike Patrol is a joint police and community operation. The program is funded with the support of several businesses throughout the City.
