    Pipes and Drums Band

In the spring of 2000, members of the Summerside Police Service, with the assistance of Bruce Gandy and Scott MacAulay for the College of Piping, formed the Summerside Police Pipes and Drums Band.

The idea for the band came from Lindsay Rodgers, a member of the Police Service whose son is currently taking lessons at the College of Piping. Lindsay then approached Bruce Gandy about forming a Police band and then posted a sign-up sheet at the Police Service and several other Police officers signed up. There are also associates from the Police Service in the band with a total now of about 12 members.

The band is actively seeking others to join the band from other police agencies or Police associates. The Summerside Police Service at present has no musical bands and with the College of Piping located in Summerside, it seemed logical to follow a long Police tradition of forming a Pipe and Drum Band.

The members of the newly formed Summerside Police Pipes and Drums hope to proudly represent its Police Service locally and beyond by the summer of 2001, and with the assistance of instructors Scott MacAulay and Sean Somers, from the College of Piping, we hope this can become a reality.

The Summerside Police Pipes and Drums are currently doing fund raisers to raise the funds needed to purchase equipment and uniforms to have the band ready for the summer of 2001. They would like to thank Canadian Tire, Summerside, and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #5, who have generously shown their support for the band. They are actively seeking other sponsors at this time and hope that soon the City of Summerside itself will come aboard as a major sponsor.

Anyone with questions about the Band can contact any of its members or by contacting the Summerside Police Service Department.
