    Prevent Bicycle Theft

    1. Use a high quality lock of case hardened steel.
    2. Poor quality locks can be cut in seconds.
    3. Secure bike to an immovable object with the lock through both wheels and frame.
    4. Lock it in a well-lit and busy area.
    5. Your bike is only as safe as you make it.
    6. Participate in any bicycle registration program your local police department may offer.

    What to watch for?

    1. Watch for suspicious people in areas where bicycles are locked … these people may be loitering in the area an may be carrying the tools of their trade – bolt cutters, hammers, etc.
    2. If you suspect that a person is about to steal a bike call your local police department. Remember – it could be your bike.

    Remember to:

    1. Never leave parcels or bike accessories (pumps, water bottle) on your unattended bicycle.
    2. Have your bicycle and accessories identified with your driver's license number, social insurance number or secret recorded number.
    3. Make a card containing the categories below and fill out the essential information on your bicycle. Report this information the to the police in the event your bike is stolen.

      - Special Equipment - Special Identifying Marks
